The Colorado Avalanche completed a trade involving the goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood to fix their problems between the pipes.

It hasn't been a secret that the only thing keeping the Colorado Avalanche from being in the top three of the Central Division has been the goaltenders' struggles.

Alexandar Georgiev, the team's number-one goalie, has a 3.38 goals-against average and a .874 save percentage after 18 games this season.

It appears the organization ran out of patience with him, as the team proceeded to their second goalie trade of the season.

Less than two weeks after the Avs traded Justus Annunen to the Nashville Predators for Scott Wedgewood, the organization announced that Alexandar Georgiev was traded to the San Jose Sharks for MacKenzie Blackwood.

Elliotte Friedman was the first to report the news:

The Colorado Avalanche organization confirmed the news with the following statement:

Georgiev has been with the Avs since 2022, and after a great first season, couldn't stay above the .900 SV% mark.

On the other hand, Blackwood, 28, has a 3.00 GAA and a .911 SV% in 19 games this season with the Sharks. With a better lineup in front of him, the goalie finds himself in a situation to turn his career around.

As for Georgiev, he will have an opportunity to work on his game with a team with a lot of promise, but merely any pressure to win now.

If he finds his rhythm and becomes an asset ahead of the upcoming trade deadline, the Sharks could be tempted to ship him off to another organization looking for a number-two goalie ahead of the playoffs.

Both the Avalanche and the San Jose Sharks will be on the ice tomorrow, respectively facing the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Carolina Hurricanes.
