Multiple reports indicate a possible leading candidate to acquire free agent superstar Juan Soto, and indicates just how high bidding may get for his services.

Soto, 26, has been reported to have multiple suitors for his services as teams look to dish out what is looking more and more like the most money ever put forward to a free agent in baseball history.

MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman reported that at least four teams could offer over $700M to Soto, and that a deal could be "in the ballpark" of 15 years. Heyman called the Los Angeles Dodgers a longshot, but says they are still a contender for Soto.

Soto could end up making $45-50M annually up until his age 41 season, but with the likelihood there will be deferred salary, as was the case with Shohei Ohtani's 10-year, $700M contract with the Dodgers last winter.

Heyman reported the five teams, including the Dodgers, that are in on Soto and are the current favorites. Those teams are the New York Yankees, who Soto spent the 2024 MLB season with, the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, & the Boston Red Sox.

The Blue Jays are expected to be an aggressive bidder, even more so after the team finished second behind the Dodgers for Shohei Ohtani last year. The Jays were targeting Soto in 2023 while he was a member of the San Diego Padres and in trade rumors, with Soto ultimately ending up in the Bronx with the Yankees.

According to Dominican baseball reporter Moises Fabian, who is connected heavily to players from that region where Soto was born, says the Jays are offering the most money at $750M, with the Mets at $700M.

Fabian says Soto's favorite team is the Red Sox, but his personal views don't have a reflection over which team he will join.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale has the Mets as favorites, saying a deal will almost surely go up to $750M and will include opt-outs.

Fellow Dominican Mike Rodriguez reported that the Mets have raised their offer over threats from the Yankees as a lucrative option for Soto to return to, the Mets looking to outbid their city rivals.

Rodriguez believes Soto will return to the Yankees. Jon Heyman recently reported that Soto gets along with fellow superstar teammate Aaron Judge and is happy playing alongside him.

It seems that the two New York teams are the top contenders for Soto, with the Mets looking like a growing competitor for his services. If Toronto is offering the most money, it's likely one of the two will match the offer, perhaps setting up Soto's final decision.

The Red Sox look like a fourth option that could still make a push if it's accurate that Soto likes the team and wants the move there, although they'll have to prove they can put forward a winning team after three seasons under .500. Toronto faces similar after a last place finish last season in the AL East.

The Mets, Blue Jays and Red Sox also offer fellow Latino stars. The Mets have used Francisco Lindor, a friend of Soto's, as apart of their wooing process for Soto. Boston has done the same with Rafael Devers. Toronto has Dominican superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr., although his contract status is still a question being a free agent at the end of next season, along with fellow Jays star Bo Bichette. Both remain unsigned, where Lindor and Devers are locked up long-term.

Soto had 41 HR's and 109 RBIs in 157 games for the New York Yankees in 2024, with a slash line of .288/.419/.569. Soto appeared in 151 games in the outfield, 145 at RF, with a .994 fielding pct%.

Soto is a 4x MLB All-Star, including this past season. Soto also won his fifth consecutive Silver Slugger and finished third in the American League MVP vote behind fellow Yankee Aaron Judge and Kansas City Royals SS Bobby Witt Jr. at first and second respectively.
