Per NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the New York Rangers have agreed to a two-year contract extension with restricted free agent Brendan Lemieux. The deal carries an average annual value of $1.55 million.

Lemieux, 24, set career highs in points this season with 18, as well as penalty minutes with 111. He has been a member of the Rangers since being acquired in a trade at the 2019 NHL trade deadline which saw Kevin Hayes going the other way. In 19 games with the Rangers during the 2018-19 season, he put up three goals and three assists along with 44 penalty minutes.

Lemieux is the son of former NHLer Claude, who played 1215 NHL career games. He plays a similar physical, in your face type of game like his father did, though doesn't provide as much offence as Claude, who finished his career with 786 points. Nonetheless, he has proven to be a valuable NHLer, and given that he was taken just one pick outside of the first round in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft (31st overall) he may still grow offensively.
