24 hours or so after deactivating his Twitter account, New York Rangers defenceman Tony DeAngelo is back on the social media platform. However, a controversial Tweet dealing with the Corona virus has been wiped from his timeline.

The Tweet is question, which was put out the afternoon of November 4th, questioned why no one was tallking about COVID-19 any longer. The U.S. election, of course, was dominating the news cycle. This appeared to be an attempt by DeAngelo to downplay the severity of the pandemic, something he has done in the past. Here's a screenshot:

Several people replied to DeAngelo's Tweet pointing out that New York was still releasing numbers and that hundreds of people had contracted the virus that day and had even died of it. Not long after, DeAngelo's Twitter account went dark and could no longer be accessed by anyone. It has not returned and the Tweet has been deleted.

According to Matt Porter of The Boston Globe, he put in a request to speak with DeAngelo while his Twitter account was deactivated, which was promptly denied by the New York Rangers. He was told by the team the situation was "handled internally." Whether that means the team forced him to remove the Tweet or he decided to remove it on his own is anyone's guess. One thing is certain, given DeAngelo's track record on Twitter, this likely won't be the last time he's embroiled in controversy.
