Fan Outrage Forces Utah Hockey Club to Announce New Finalist in Rebrand
The Utah Hockey Club are bound for a new name in 2025/26, and now an intriguing new finalist has emerged as a possibility after fan outrage, with fans clearly in favour of the new finalist, the Utah Outlaws.
The Utah Hockey Club are closing in on a new name for the NHL's newest franchise, but after the options were revealed on Wednesday, fans revolted with the choices, with the Utah Wasatch specifically the one that fans had most problems with.
Now, owner Ryan Smith is showing how flexible he can be, as he has responded to the outrage, officially adding Utah Outlaws as the third finalist, replacing Wasatch alongside the current name and the Utah Mammoths, as the team announced on social media after neutral and Utah fans questioned how 'Wasatch' fits as a team name.
Clearly, this was the best choice for the organization could have made, as Outlaws was overwhelmingly the favoured choice of those vocal few on social media, with the team name expected to be the favourite as the fan voting takes place over the coming weeks.
According to a social media post from the team, voting will take place in the arena over the teams next three games, with the results expected to be known before the end of the 2024/25 campaign as Ryan Smith and the team look to get the rebranding plenty of publicity throughout the summer.
Despite being in the running, many fans have opposed the idea of 'Utah Hockey Club', with the team clearly needing a mascot and some excitement on their already nice jerseys, and with Outlaws now in the running, expect a very tight race between that and Utah Mammoths as fan voting wraps up in the coming weeks.
