Former NHLer Todd Bertuzzi has stated he may be in for a move back to Canada if what he deems "the right person" does not win the U.S. election. Appearing on the Starting Lineup on Sportsnet 650 radio, Bertuzzi talked about his experience of being a Canadian living in America during the last four years.

"I tell you, it's interesting times, especially for a Canadian living here," said Bertuzzi. "I've been here for, I don't know, about 15 years, 20 years total, and I've never seen anything like this. At some points in time, it's a little bit terrifying — boarding up stores and all this kind of stuff... The U.S. is in a difficult time right now and hopefully, people get out there and vote and we put the right person in place."

Bertuzzi was dodgy about saying whether he was supporting Donald Trump or Joe Biden in the election but let it slip in a later statement.

"Here in Michigan (which is the state he's living in), we're a very big swing state here, so you have a giant divide between the Biden and the Trump people," he said. "I live out in Lake Orion now on the lake and it is very much a Trump lake, which I'm a supporter of. I don't get into discussing politics and all that, but that's who I would like to see in place."

Asked if he would stay in the U.S. after the election, Bertuzzi said it depends.

"I plan on living here unless someone gets in the presidency and I feel like I'm ready to go back to Canada," said Bertuzzi. He then added, "I'm always ready to go back to Canada."

Bertuzzi is not a U.S. citizen and, therefore, cannot vote in the election.

Bertuzzi played in the NHL for close to 20 seasons. The Sudbury, Ontario native is best known for his time with the Vancouver Canucks, although he also suited up for the New York Islanders, Florida, Anaheim and Calgary, before finishing out his career with a second stint with the Detroit Red Wings. He's also well-known for the infamous incident involving a sucker-punch to Colorado's Steve Moore in February of 2004. Moore broke three vertebrae hitting the ice. Bertuzzi faced criminal and civil actions because of the punch.
