With his hearing only two days away, forward Ryan Strome and the New York Rangers have each exchanged their figures heading into arbitration. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, both sides are $2.1 million apart with the Rangers coming in at $3.6 million, and Strome coming in at $5.7 million.

Strome, 27, was drafted in the first round, fifth overall by the New York Islanders in the 2011 NHL entry draft. Since entering the NHL in 2013, Strome has made stops in New York with the Islanders, then was dealt to Edmonton in a trade that saw Jordan Eberle go to the Islanders, and then over a year after that trade, the Oilers sent Strome to the Rangers.

In 491 regular season games, Strome's put up 254 points (95 G, 159 A), 268 penalty minutes, and is a +19. In 18 career playoff games, he's recorded 10 points (3 G, 7 A), 11 penalty minutes, and is a -1. Strome had a career year during the 2019-20 season. He had 59 points (18 G, 41 A), 48 penalty minutes, and was a +21 in 70 games.

Internationally, Strome has represented Canada on a few occasions, most recently at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. In 6 games, he put up 6 points (4 G, 2 A), 10 penalty minutes, and was a +2 as Canada finished fourth following a loss to Russia in the bronze medal game. He also played for Canada at the 2012 World Juniors, winning a bronze medal after defeating Finland.

The Rangers and Strome will now have the next day and a bit to get a deal done, but if they cannot come to an agreement, they will hit arbitration on November 5th. Strome has a bit of leverage going into the hearing after coming off a career year, but he won't likely end up getting the $5.7 million he is seeking. Expect to see the arbitrator award Strome somewhere in the range of $4.3 to $4.8 million.
