After parting ways with Jonathan Quick at last year's trade deadline the Los Angeles Kings are in a bit of a transition when it comes to goaltending. Currently, Cam Talbot, David Rittich, and Pheonix Copley are listed as their goaltenders for next season.
Both Talbot and Rittich have shown an ability to do well in a goaltending tandem in the past. Neither is an elite or even above-average starter in the league when asked to play a lot of games. This calls into question what could the Los Angeles Kings look like if they had a truly elite goaltender.
Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has had his name swirled in trade rumors for the past few offseasons. This one is no different as the now 30-year-old goaltender is coming off his best season since 2017-18. The Jets have been on the verge of a rebuild for several years now and offloading Hellebuyck seems to be a logical first step.
According to a recent article from NHL Trade Talk the Los Angeles Kings and Connor Hellebuyck could be in the works. While a trade is not likely at the moment if the Kings are in the race come trade deadline time Hellebuyck will be a name to look out for.
The addition of Hellebuyck in Los Angeles could make them a contender in the Pacific Division immediately. The Kings already have proven veterans who can show up in the playoffs like Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty. This would be a very intriguing story and team to follow down the stretch if the move was pulled off.
