NHL analyst Doug MacLean revealed yesterday that the Toronto Maple Leafs may be in talks with the Flames regarding a trade for Nazem Kadri.

MacLean went on the Kyper and Bourne show yesterday to discuss what he thinks could be a major storyline for the Leafs this season.

Obviously, the Leafs have struggled mightily in the playoffs in recent years. Fans have accused the team of being too soft and easy to play against when the regular season ends.

Who is one player that could help fix that? Nazem Kadri. Yes it is true he has a history of suspensions, but he was also a key part of the Colorado Avalanche's cup win in 2022.

Kadri had 7 goals and 15 points in 16 games on that run. Furthermore, he is a gritty and tough player who can go toe-to-toe with the scrappiest guys in the league.

As such, MacLean believes he could be part of the solution in Toronto. Furthermore, he says he has heard that Brad Treliving has contacted the Flames about him.

"If you're going to play against the teams in the playoffs, the Florida Panthers, the Carolina Hurricanes, the New Jersey Devils, the Rangers, they need a Kadri. I know people in Toronto are gonna say, 'MacLean is clueless,' but I am telling you, if I'm Brad Treliving, and I hear they are kicking tires, Treliving has his hands full because of a little animosity there but everything he can do in his power and you go into the playoffs with Matthews at one, Kadri at two, and Tavares at three and they go against Florida, its going to be a different series."

His take is not all that unpopular either. There is a sizeable part of the Leafs fan base that would love to see a reunion with the veteran center.

That being said, a trade could be tough. Not only does Treliving have to deal with the fallout of leaving the Flames, but Calgary is actually in a playoff position contrary to preseason expectations.

It is rare for two teams in playoff positions to make a trade with each other, but it sounds like that is what Treliving is trying to pull off. Can he do it? Stick around to find out.
