The Edmonton Oilers have already made one splash this offseason in signing Tyson Barrie, but they may not be done just yet, according to the Edmonton Journal's Kurt Leavins.

The Oilers could definitely still use another consistent d-man as Oscar Klefbom, who is arguably their best defenseman, could miss the entire 2020-21 season due to shoulder surgery to help prevent arthritis.

It is definitely not a bad idea to have a surplus of defenseman, especially with an odd season sure to be coming up. One name that the Oilers have been linked to is Madison Bowey. He would be a useful addition, considering the fact that Matt Benning is gone and Evan Bouchard isn't quite ready to make the jump to the NHL quite yet.

It was somewhat surprising when Detroit did not qualify the 25-year-old defenseman. Last season, Bowey had 3 goals and 14 assists for 17 points in 53 games with the Red Wings.

He still has potential, and has the frame at 6'2” and 210 pounds to become a top-4 defenseman. The former second round pick is also a good skater that can move the puck well, along with defending with a certain edge that many teams would love.

Acquiring Bowey makes a lot of sense for Edmonton. They would not have to rush their prospects into NHL spots, and it would help balance out the d-corps. Ken Holland has acquired extra defensemen in the past, an example being when he acquired veteran Mike Green at the trade deadline last spring.

The Oilers should have the cap space to re-sign RFA Ethan Bear along with him, with the money they will get from Oscar Klefbom likely going to LTIR, which will be over $4 million. It's just a matter of time before these two moves could happen.
