Islanders qualify multiple RFAs, re-sign defenseman

The New York Islanders have offered qualifying offers to 8 pending RFAs.

Lou Lamoriello has offered qualifying offers to Mathew Barzal, Kyle Burroughs, Josh Ho-Sang, Grant Hutton, Ryan Pulock, Devon Toews, Mitch Vande Sompel and Parker Wotherspoon.

The Islanders have also re-signed prospect defenseman Sebastian Aho to a two-year contract. Aho has not played in the NHL since the 2017-18 season, but he had 3 goals and 27 assists for 30 points in 49 games for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.

Barzal played in 68 games and scored 19 goals and had 41 assists for 60 points in the 2019-20 season. He was drafted 16th overall to the Islanders in 2015 and won the Calder Memorial Trophy for Rookie of the Year in 2018.

Burroughs has yet to play an NHL game, but has spent 6 seasons in the AHL for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He had 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points in 58 games during the 2019-20 season.

Ho-Sang has played 53 career NHL games and has 7 goals and 17 assists for 24 points. He spent the 2019-20 season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and scored 3 goals and had 7 assists for 10 points in 16 games.

Hutton has also not played in an NHL game, but played 55 games in the 2019-20 season and scored 6 goals and had 15 assists for 24 points for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Pulock played in 68 games and scored 10 goals and had 25 assists for 35 points. He was drafted 15th overall in 2013 by the Islanders.

Toews played in 68 games and scored 6 goals and had 22 assists for 28 points in the 2019-20 season. He was drafted 108th overall in 2014.

Vande Sompel played 70 games and scored 10 goals and 21 assists for 31 points for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2019-20. He has yet to play an NHL game.

Wotherspoon played 62 games and scored 4 goals and had 23 assists for 27 points for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2019-20. He was drafted 112th overall in 2015, and has yet to play an NHL game.
