Canucks Defenseman Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery
The Vancouver Canucks announced that one of their defensemen will undergo season-ending surgery later this week.
It hasn't been an easy season for the Vancouver Canucks in terms of injuries this year. With their number one goaltender, Thatcher Demko, being limited to a mere 17 games due to multiple injuries, and their captain, Quinn Hughes, being forced to sit out the 4 Nations Face-Off
, management surely hoped to see most players get through the season without further health issues.
Unfortunately, that's not what is happening right now.
Indeed, Rick Dhaliwal just announced that the team won't be able to rely on Noah Juulsen for the rest of the season, as he must undergo season-ending hernia surgery later this week.
Here's what the reporter wrote on X:
Drafted 26th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2015, Juulsen is currently playing in the final season of his two-year, $775,000 AAV deal with the Canucks.
He hasn't been in the lineup for nearly a month, with his last game being on February 2nd against the Detroit Red Wings.
In 35 games so far this season, he hasn't been able to add his name to the scoresheet and has a -12 rating, playing an average of around 16 minutes per game in a third-pair role with the Canucks.
With the Canucks currently holding on to the second wild card playoff spot in the Western Conference, general manager Patrik Allvin will likely do all he can to make sure his team remains in this spot.
The trade deadline is coming up soon, and one could argue that Juulsen's injury comes at the right time for the Canucks. Allvin still has time to add another defenseman to his team on the trade market.
With many rumors surrounding Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser, it'll be interesting to see if the organization will look to add another defenseman, despite Marcus Pettersson's acquisition.
