The Boston Bruins picked up Oliver Wahlstrom on waivers earlier this season, but now, they've turned around and waived the former first-round draft pick after struggling to catch on with his second team at the NHL level.

Earlier this season, the New York Islanders waived Oliver Wahlstrom, with the former first-round pick struggling to break out at the NHL level after showing plenty of promise.

Then, he was picked up by the Boston Bruins, who were seen as a team that Wahlstrom could really thrive with, but now, the team have also placed the 24-year old on waivers according to Frank Seravalli.

In 16 games with Boston this season, Wahlstrom has just 1 goal and 1 assist, and even with the bigger opportunities, he's simply not been able to capitalize and start producing at the NHL level.

At 24-years of age, there's still time for Wahlstrom to find his footing in the NHL, but with two teams now seeing how the former No. 11 pick has struggled to catch on, he may be looking at an extended stint in the AHL in the coming years.

Just hours before the announcement, a Bruins reporter revealed that Wahlstrom was leading the team stretch at practice, and showing how brutal professional sports are, he may find himself on another team soon after the waivers announcement.

Ultimately, the talent and the potential are still evident with Wahlstrom, who could be a very solid middle-six winger at the NHL level if he can find a way to adjust, but at this point he's simply not been able to do that, with a combined 12 points over the last two years showing that he's got a long way to go before becoming a consistent NHLer.
