Penguins qualify multiple RFAs

The Pittsburgh Penguins have offered qualifying offers to 5 pending restricted free agents.

Jim Rutherford offered a qualifying offer to Pontus Aberg, Anthony Angello, Sam Lafferty, Sam Miletic and goaltender Matt Murray.

Forwards Graham Knott, Dominik Simon and defenseman John Nyberg will not be receiving a qualifying offer and become free agents on October 9th. Additionally, Jack Johnson was placed on waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

Aberg was aquired in the Kasperi Kapanen trade and has not played a game for the Penguins, but had 1 assist in 5 games for the Maple Leafs. He currently has 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points in 11 games for the Celyabinsk Traktor of the KHL.

Angello played 8 games for the Penguins in the 2019-20 season and had 1 goal. He was drafted 145th overall in 2014.

Lafferty played 50 games and had 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points in the 2019-20 season. It was his debut season in the NHL, after spending 3 seasons with the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL.

Miletic had 9 goals and 23 assists for 32 points in 62 games for the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins in the 2019-20 season. He was signed by the Penguins as a free agent in 2017.

Murray played 38 games and had a record of 20-11-5 along with a goals against average of 2.87 and a save percentage of .899. He won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017.
