The Boston Bruins have a history of conducting business a certain way. Some might use the word 'cutthroat.' Staying consistent, they fired Bruce Cassidy after losing in seven games to the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the playoffs. Cassidy's Bruins made the playoffs in each of his five seasons as head coach, so the firing was already questionable. However, in light of recent news, it is outright suspect.

Cassidy spoke with media for almost an hour today. During which he disclosed that he had received assurance his job was safe during exit interviews. However, two weeks later he was canned despite those assurances.

Cassidy also mentioned that he has been in touch with several teams & absolutely wants to coach next season, provided the fit is right. There are currently six NHL teams who need head coaches, with two teams currently employing interim head coaches. Cassidy shouldn't run into much trouble finding qualified suitors. But that doesn't make his dismissal any easier for him.

Regardless of where Cassidy ends up, the Bruins now need a head coach. They also have to plot a course forward which may exclude captain Patrice Bergeron. Furthermore, there are reports David Pastrnak could be on the move, but those rumors have been refuted. Nevertheless, Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney & President Cam Neely have a long list of concerns, including managing the club's reputation. And when players see the way they treat personnel, it's plausible they may have second thoughts when choosing Boston in free agency.
