Several NHL teams have coaching vacancies heading into the summer and those roles will likely be filled in the weeks leading up to the NHL draft and free agency.

According to Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff, the Chicago Blackhawks have asked the Montreal Canadiens permission to interview Luke Richardson for their head coaching role.

Seravalli added that the Blackhawks have also asked the Canucks if they can interview Brad Shaw and that interim head coach Derek King remains in the mix.

Richardson, 53, began coaching in 2009 as an assistant with the Ottawa Senators following parts of 21 seasons in the NHL as a player. After three years as an assistant with the Senators, he was named head coach of their AHL affiliate in Binghamton. He then spent the 2017-18 season with the New York Islanders as an assistant coach, before joining the Montreal Canadiens in 2018.
