St. Louis Blues forward Oscar Sundqvist missed a lengthy period of time after taking a dirty, blindside hit to the head from Tom Wilson in a game versus Washington a few seasons ago. Wilson came screaming across the middle of the ice and crushed Sundqvist with a shoulder right to his head. Sundqvist appeared on the Cam & Strick Podcast and recalled an interesting pattern of events that followed the hit.
Sundqvist explained how the hit happened so fast, and he doesn't remember much except for waking up after his concussion test and asking medical staff what happened at least six times. After recovering from the injury, his first game back was versus a huge team rival, the Minnesota Wild. He lined up side-by-side against Marcus Foligno, who then had some choice words for the Wilson hit.
"Such a bulls*** hit. I'm going to take him for you. Don't worry about it buddy."
Foligno went on to duel in a heavy-weight tilt with Wilson a few nights later, and it seems that Foligno won the fight fair and square. The 30-year-old veteran for the Wild has always been known to stick up for his own teammates, and it is just as cool that he can stick up for players on other teams as well, even if it is one of your biggest rivals.
