The Vancouver Canucks currently sit on the outside looking in for the playoffs and are already up against the cap. For any professional sports team, this is a terrible place to be.
Canucks management is ready to make changes, and clearing cap space is among the top of their to-do list. One of their forwards that could become a cap casualty is Brock Boeser.
According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, Boeser is in the top five for trade candidates in all of the league.
"Part of this living and breathing list is gathering the intel from conversations around the league, and it's really nothing new as opposed to what I've expressed previously,"said Seravalli.
"It just seems more clear that if the Vancouver Canucks are making a move — and there's no guarantee that that's the case — that it seems like Brock Boeser is the most likely guy. That they've had enough conversations with teams around the league, that there's been enough interest as well, that Brock Boeser really appears to be the guy that is the target from Vancouver."
Boeser isn't the only player looking to be traded out of Vancouver, as Jaroslav Halak looks like he is also on his way out. Halak has not been a good fit in Vancouver, and it seems likely that he will waive his no-move clause to get out.
It will be interesting to see what the Canucks do, as they are close to garnering a playoff spot. They could be sellers or buyers at the deadline, but how much they sell or buy is a great question.
