The National Hockey League announced today that they would be implementing enhanced protocols due to the outbreaks among many teams across the league. It's more bad news in the league as it seems that COVID-19 is returning to a more regular problem than it previously was.

According to Elliotte Friedman, NHL teams and players will be required to partake in these enhancements until at least January 7.

These measures could include anything from restrictions on indoor dinings while on the road, wearing masks and social distancing while in club facilities, and daily testing with off days being the only exception.

The new wave of COVID-19 has hit the NHL hard with the Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, and Carolina Hurricanes facing problems with the virus.

TSN's Pierre LeBrun also reports that the NHLPA will be holding an executive board call tonight to discuss any questions about the enhanced protocols. These new protocols will also be reviewed early in 2022 if they need to be extended or removed.
