Despite heightened anxiety over COVID and the length of quarantines being imposed by the Chinese government, at least one NHLer says he still wants to go to the Olympics Games in February if the league is participating.

"Given the opportunity to go, I would go," said Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

He added that quarantine times of up to five weeks are a worst case scenario and he's hopeful NHL players will still be able to go to Beijing.

It makes sense that Stamkos would want to be there. He was supposed to represent Team Canada at the Olympic Games in 2014, but injuries put an end to that. Then, in 2018, NHLers did not participate. At 31 years of age, this is pretty much his last opportunity to represent his home country on the Olympic stage.

Other players in the league - such as Connor McDavid, Austin Matthews, and Alex Pietrangelo - have said they aren't yet sure about travelling to Beijing and want to see how things play out over the next couple of weeks. The NHL has until January 10th to make a decision. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has said the decision rest completely in the hands of players.
