When Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith was injured back on Oct. 19, coaching staff told media that he was day-to-day and was only expected to miss a few games.

As time has gone on, fans have started to question that original diagnosis, thinking that perhaps the injury was worse than revealed. Unfortunately, that is now the case even if it wasn't before, as it was announced on Thursday that he had a set back and is headed back to Edmonton for further evaluation.

Thankfully, the Oilers have been able to continue playing great hockey without Smith, as they have a 9-2-0 record through the first 11 games of the season. Still, there is no denying that they would love to get their 39-year-old netminder back in the pipes soon. In 32 games last season, he posted a very impressive 2.31 goals against average along with a .923 save percentage.
