Support in the hockey world for Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price has been overwhelming. Why anyone would choose to poke fun at his recent entry into the NHL's Player Assistance program and admission to "substance use" is a mystery. One thing is certain, doing so resulted in immediate backlash and an apology.

The Quebec Municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel decided to announce a boil-water advisory by using Price and his recent issues to make a joke. The social media post was made in French, but here is the translation:

«We are as eager as you are to lift the notice. Like Carey Price, as soon as our substance problem is resolved, we will notify you."

The post also contained an image of Price drinking from his water bottle, with a thought bubble stating: "Also seemed to me that there were substances in the water."

I often refrain from adding opinion here. It's not up to me to tell you what's right or wrong. But, holy crap, whoever approved this message must have had a major lapse of reason. The Municipality removed the post almost immediately after complaints came pouring in. It also issued the following statement:

"We never wanted to make fun of those who have a problem with consumption, let alone those who are trying to get out of this situation."

"We have used humor a number of times in our publications in the past, with some success. It has even become our trademark. We believed, wrongly, that people would take the message at face value, with lightness. As they are used to it."
