Reinforcements are officially on the way for the Pittsburgh Penguins, who have quietly had a decent start to the season, earning points in 5 of 7 games, despite missing the vast majority of their top players in the early going.

Per Pens head coach Mike Sullivan on Saturday, the team is expecting to have Jeff Carter and captain Sidney Crosby back in the lineup against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night.

Crosby has been sidelined since the summer after undergoing a surgical procedure to correct a longstanding issue with his wrist, reportedly stemming from a collision with Ryan Reaves back in 2014. Crosby had managed to play through the injury and avoid the surgery as long as he could before undergoing the procedure out of necessity during the offseason.

Carter, who was acquired by the Pens late last season, missed the last 3 games due to being placed on the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list and will likely slot in as the team's 2nd line center behind Crosby on Saturday.

The Pens are 3-2-2 to start the season, collecting 8 of a possible 14 points through 7 games, good for 5th place in the Metropolitan Division, 1 point behind the Philadelphia Flyers, who have a game in hand.
