The Hockey Diversity Alliance, which is a group formed by both current and former NHLers, released a statement regarding the situation of Evander Kane, who happens to be a member of the group.

Kane, 30, was recently accused by his ex-wife of betting on NHL games, including his own as a member of the San Jose Sharks. She also went on to claim that gambling has completely taken over his life, causing the bank to take his house away from his ex-wife and daughter. But instead of being home to support them, he has been partying in Europe.

«The Hockey Diversity Alliance is aware of the allegations against our colleague and friend Evander Kane and find them very troubling,» the statement read. «We take these accusations very seriously and we are committed to learning the truth.»

«We fully believe in due process and respect the privacy of Mr. Kane and his family. In the meantime, Mr. Kane is on voluntary leave as an HDA board member as to not distract from our mission to eradicate systematic racism and intolerance in hockey.»

The NHL has spoken out about Kane's situation and says that an investigation is being launched and will be completed prior to training camps beginning in September. If found guilty, Kane's NHL future would very much be in jeopardy. However, even if proven innocent, his future in San Jose is very uncertain as a report came out today that many of his teammates don't want him back next season. It will be very interesting to see how this summer unfolds for him.
