Per NHL reporter Andy Strickland, the Calgary Flames have acquired Nikita Zadorov from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a third round pick.

Zadorov, 26, spent the entire 2020-21 season with the Blackhawks where he managed a goal and eight points in 55 games while averaging over 19 minutes of ice time per contest. Over the years, particularly during his time with the Colorado Avalanche, he has been able to establish himself as a physical force, often throwing massive open ice hits that he does a good job of keeping clean.

This will help fill the hole on the Flames' back end after team captain Mark Giordano was picked up by the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft last week. While he isn't as effective of a player, he is a very capable top-six defenceman and should help Calgary's blueline. He has played in a combined 411 career NHL games between the Buffalo Sabres, Avalanche and Blackhawks, scoring 23 goals and 83 points.
