UPDATE: the deal is now done. Andersen has signed with the Canes for two years with a AAV of $4.5 million
Andersen spent the last 5 seasons in Toronto after being acquired by the Leafs from the Anaheim Ducks back in 2016.
The veteran goaltender had a strong start to his tenure in Toronto, notching 33 or more wins in his first 3 seasons with the club. He had struggled with injuries over the past two seasons, showing clear signs of regression, likely due to the enormous workload, starting 192 of 246 games for the Leafs from 2016-17 to 2018-19.
Andersen appeared in just 24 games for the Leafs last season, posting a 13-8-3 record, with a career-low .895 SV% and forgettable 2.96 GAA - also the lowest of his NHL career.
Andersen will be looking to bounce back with a Hurricanes team who has been among the NHL's top teams over the last several seasons.
