TSN's Pierre LeBrun got the ball rolling with a big rumour on Wednesday morning, mere hours before the start of free agent frenzy.

LeBrun has suggested that the Toronto Maple Leafs could take a run at pending UFA goaltender and Vezina Trophy finalist Philipp Grubauer if he and the Avalanche cannot come to terms on a new deal.

The Leafs would have to move some cap space in order to make something like this happen, but Grubauer would definitely be a solid addition in Toronto if the opportunity presents itself.

The Leafs would also have to shift their focus a little bit if Grubauer is brought in, as the crease was originally thought to have belonged to Jack Campbell this season. He has certainly earned it with his stellar play last season and during the postseason.

That detail aside, adding a guy like Philipp Grubauer definitely improves the Leafs situation in goal and provides the team with a very strong tandem.

In 22 starts last season, Campbell posted a 2.15 GAA to go along with a .921 SV%. Conversely, Grubauer posted a sparkling 1.95 GAA and a .922 SV% across 40 appearances.

This is shaping up to be an interesting UFA-day with some of the names floating around.
