Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine made his decision to sign his qualifying offer with the team on Tuesday. His salary for next season will be $7.5 million for next season, and he will be the team's highest paid player for next season.

The contract is just a one-year deal, and this will buy the team's management more time to convince him to sign a longer extension. Although, he may not want to stay in Columbus as many players tend to leave the team after short tenures with the Jackets.

Laine struggled with the team last season after the Winnipeg Jets traded him and forward Jack Roslovic to the Blue Jackets for Pierre-Luc Dubois and a 2022 third round pick. He recorded career lows in almost every offensive category, finishing with 12 goals and 24 points in 46 games. He does have a chance to make himself the star he was during his first couple of seasons with Winnipeg if he can rebound.
