Another contract no one wants has been sent to the Arizona desert to die. Defenceman Anton Stralman of the Florida Panthers, who has one season remaining on his contract with a $5.5 million cap hit, has been traded to the Coyotes. The Yotes are also getting Vladislav Kolyachonok, who was drafted 52nd in 2019, and a 2nd in 2024. The return for Florida is a seventh round pick in 2023.

Stralman, who had to waive his no-trade clause in order for the deal to be approved, was once a capable offensive defenceman. However, his production has slipped considerably over the last couple of seasons. He was originally drafted in the seventh round by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He spent a couple of seasons there before moving on to Columbus, the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and eventually Florida.

The Coyotes have been stocking up on draft picks the last couple of weeks by taking on contracts that teams don't want. That includes Shayne Gostisbehere from the Philadelphia Flyers, as well as Antoine Roussel, Jay Beagle, and Loui Eriksson from Vancouver.
