Though it had been rumored in recent weeks, it was pretty well confirmed Thursday morning by Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin that defenceman Shea Weber will miss the entire 2021-22 season.

This is an extremely unfortunate situation for the Habs captain, who has reportedly battled several injuries (ankle, foot, knee, thumb) for quite some time now. It appears these lingering issues have continued getting worse, to the point that the 35-year-old is expected to miss the entire 2021-22 season, and perhaps more.

«Even missing a practice wasn't an option,» said Bergevin. «He has a lot of mileage He won't be back next season, and probably won't be back for his career.»

This would be truly devastating for Weber, who for a long stretch of time was regarded as one of the game's best defencemen. If it is the end for him, it was a fantastic career. In 1038 games, he has scored 224 goals and put up 589 points, all while maintaining his extremely intimidating physical style of play. We hope the best for Weber moving forward.
