Yanni Gourde's time in Tampa Bay is over. The Seattle Kraken made the two-time Stanley Cup champion one of their picks in the expansion draft held last night in Seattle. His name was pretty much confirmed to be the pick from the Lightning Wednesday afternoon.

However, what people didn't know was that Gourde went under the knife for a shoulder injury, and it will keep him away for a few months. That means he will miss the start of next season, which general manager Ron Francis was aware of before making the selection.

"He's already had [the operation]," said Francis. "So he'll be on the sidelines for a few months, he's probably going to miss the first few months of the season, but he's such a good player that we wanted to select him. When he regains his form and when he is ready to play for us, he will be a big addition to our squad. "

Gourde is one of the best forwards selected by Seattle last night. He has another four seasons left on his contract with a cap hit of $5.17 million. According to reports, if all goes well, he should be ready to get in the Kraken lineup in November. Seattle's first regular season game in the NHL will take place on the road against the Vegas Golden Knights on October 12th. The team's home opener is on October 23rd against the Vancouver Canucks.
