The New York Rangers have scratched for Monday afternoon's game against the New Jersey Devils, leading to many trade rumors.

In the past two weeks, the New York Rangers made drastic changes by trading away their captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks and their 2019 2nd overall pick Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken.

On both occasions, players were made a healthy scratch for the game leading up to the trade.

Now, in breaking news, the Rangers decided to scratch Chris Kreider from the lineup ahead of his afternoon's game against the New Jersey Devils.

Nothing was confirmed, but it's a big hint of what could be coming for the veteran who's been involved in plenty of trade rumors in the past weeks.

With the NHL Roster Freeze in effect until December 28th, the Rangers technically can't trade him until then. However, general managers can still talk to each other and complete deals, it just won't be announced until the end of the freeze.

As we saw in the Trouba trade, Rangers' GM Chris Drury doesn't mind finding ways to bend rules to complete deals. The Rangers found a way to send their former captain to a team on his no-trade clause by threatening to put him on waivers.

Could Chris Kreider already have played his last game as a member of the New York Rangers?

This would put an end to a 15-year stint in New York. The 33-year-old veteran was drafted by the Rangers in 2009. He scored 564 points in 845 regular-season games since, and 76 in 123 playoff games.

He stands at the 10th rank in the Ranger's all-time scorers, only eight points from Vic Hadfield at the ninth place and 16 points ahead of his current teammate Mika Zibanejad.
