Four Players Placed on Waivers Today, Including 6-Foot-3 Right Shot Islanders Defenseman
Four players have been placed on NHL waivers today, including a New York Islanders' 6-foot-3 right-handed defenseman.
On the trade market, the value of right-handed defensemen has been getting higher and higher in the past few years.
It seems that with every trade deadline, key players in that position are getting traded, such as Chris Tanev, Sean Walker, David Jiricek, and many others.
There aren't many opportunities to acquire one, especially with nothing to pay in return.
Surprisingly, the New York Islanders made one available for free on the waivers.
In today's waiver wire update, the insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that four players are being sent down the AHL, including Grant Hutton, a right-handed, veteran defenseman.
Friedman added that Tye Felhaber of the Colorado Avalanche, Marc Del Gaizo of the Nashville Predators, and Dylan Coghlan of the Winnipeg Jets were also placed on waivers Wednesday.
The insider also confirmed that Wagner and Dowling, who were placed on waivers yesterday by the Colorado Avalanche and the New Jersey Devils, cleared, and joined their respective AHL teams.

Hutton, 29, took part in 12 games this season with the Islanders, scoring two points and tallying a +1 rating. He was never drafted by an NHL team and played 30 games in his career, all with the Isles.
He spent most of his time with the Bridgeport Islanders in the AHL, notably taking part in 11 playoff games for the team between 2018 and 2022.
With Friday being the last day before the NHL roster freeze, many teams are looking to make adjustments ahead of their final games of 2024. Before the end of the week, we should have many more updates to report about the waiver wire and the trade market.
