After the New York Rangers' massive fall from grace this season, Paul Bissonette has shared that owner James Dolan may place his current GM with a beloved former player.

The New York Rangers, just last season, were the President's Trophy-winning team, raking in 114 points during the 2023-24 regular season.

However, after a promising start, the team has faced a serious decline, losing what should have been several easy matchups for them leaving them with a .500 point percentage and currently standing at 23rd in the league.

The Rangers reportedly held a recent meeting, and according to Steve Dangle of his self-titled podcast, the players are looking to rid themselves of their current GM Chris Drury, pointing fingers at him for being the culprit behind their sharp decline.

"There was a players-only meeting and the players-only meeting was not to discuss Peter Laviolette. As far as I can tell the relationship with Laviolette is fine, between him and the players so there's a lot of chatter about him potentially getting fired. I don't get the impression that they think he is either the problem or their main problem, like if they do think he's a problem, he's not the main problem. Their main gripe was Chris Drury[...] I get the impression these guys want to be Rangers and the reason they're so upset, and not necessarily being like 'Trade me right now,' is they just want Chris Drury to either change his ways or be gone."

Not long after Dangle's podcast report, Paul Bissonnette provided more details on the situation at Madison Square Garden.

During their latest edition of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, Bissonette shared that team owner James Dolan could have his sights set on another former Ranger to replace Chris Drury as GM.

The TNT host stated that he heard Dolan is supposedly set to meet Sean Avery in New York to discuss the team's issues before uttering that he could be the answer to the Drury problem.

"I'm also hearing rumblings that Sean Avery is going over to NYC to talk about the state of the New York Rangers. There is a crazy element to James Dolan that might get rid of Drury and hire Sean Avery as the next general manager."

Chris Drury played 312 more games and amassed 368 more points, yet both players played the same number of games for the Rangers with only one out of hot water with the team.

While there is no confirmation that James Dolan looking to hire Sean Avery, it could be the move that helps lift the Rangers out of their rut.
