St. Louis Blues Veteran Radek Faksa was forced to leave the game against the Vancouver Canucks after he appeared to get cut by an opponent's skate

This is the kind of thing you hate to see in the game, especially after what happened to former Pittsburgh Penguins player Adam Johnson in Britain.

Radek Faksa of the St. Louis Blues was forced to leave a game against the Vancouver Canucks last night after taking an opponent's skate to the groin area.

Radek Faksa had shoved the Canucks' Danton Heinen from behind along the boards during a puck battle. As Danton Heinen went to the ice, his skate came up and caught Faksa right in the groin.

This angle shows Faksa holding his groin area as he left the ice to speak with trainers before going to the back.

After Faksa rushed to the back to have his injury checked, sports injury expert Dr. Harjas Grewal expressed concern for one of Faksa's major arteries.

An update from St. Louis Blues head coach Jim Montgomery following the game confirmed that Faksa has indeed been cut by Heinen's skate and required stiches. However, that seemed to be the extend of the damage.

There's no word yet on whether Faksa will have to miss some time while recovering from the cut. The 30-year-old veteran has 2 goals and 7 points in 29 games this season.

Incidents like these are a stark reminder of the dangers that exist for hockey players as they and everyone around them have blades strapped to their feet. Fortunately, Faksa appeared to escape with minimal harm given the circumstances.
