The NHL Department of Player Safety announced on Saturday morning that Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has been offered an in-person hearing for his hit on Boston Bruins defenceman Brandon Carlo. The meeting will take place over Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the date and time have yet to be determined.

An in-person hearing allows the NHL to suspend a player for five games or more, depending on the severity of the incident. Given Wilson's suspension history, he's looking at a lengthy absence.

The incident in question occurred late in the first period of Friday night's game. Wilson did not receive a penalty on the play. Carlo left the game and was taken to hospital by ambulance for precautionary reasons. There currently is no update on Carlo's status.

In the second period, Bruins defenceman Jarred Tinordi stepped up for his teammate and fought Wilson in a spirited bout.

In his post game press briefing, Bruins forward Brad Marchand called the hit "bullsh*t" and a "f*cking cheapshot".

The two teams won't meet again until April 8th, but it's certainly going to be an interesting one to watch. If the season ended today, the Capitals and Bruins would face off in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, and every hockey fan would love to see them go toe-to-toe in a seven game series.
