The two-game mini-series between the Washington Capitals and the Boston Bruins has yielded its fair share of "ooh and aah" moments, from the infamous Bruins spark plug Trent Frederic attempting to drag Alexander Ovechkin into a fight, to Ovi later spearing the young scrapper in the pills, to Tom Wilson doing Tom Wilson things and likely causing another concussion due to the latest in a long line of dirty headshots, but I don't know if anything hits quite the way Zdeno Chara going after friend and former long-time teammate Brad Marchand does.

Marchand, arguably the league's most infamous pest, found his way onto the score sheet twice in a 5-1 win over the Caps on Friday, but he wasn't scoring any points with his former captain in the third period of the affair when he decided to mix it up, post-whistle, with Chara's new teammate Nick Jensen.

We don't know exactly what was said in the exchange between Jensen and Marchand, but the moment Marchand jabbed at Jensens chin/neck area, Chara was having absolutely none of if, taking two swings at Marchand in the altercation.

As Chara looked to continue his pursuit of #63, another of his good friends, new Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron stepped in to hold the big man back, successfully defusing the situation before it could escalate further.

While it didn't exactly come to any meaningful blows, Marchand certainly owes his new captain a debt of gratitude, as the 5'9, 181 lb winger did not want to being taking any real punishment from his 6'9, 250 lb counterpart.

The two East Division clubs split the series 1-1, and with the next meeting between these two clubs not occurring until April 8th, there will be plenty of time for the emotions to settle before they do it all over again, though I'd expect that the matter has already been resolved off the ice between the two long-time friends.
