Ulf Samuelsson, who has his name etched on the Stanley Cup twice (Pittsburgh - 1991, 1992) has joined the Florida Panthers. The team has announced Samuelsson will serve as an assistant coach effective immediately.

Samuelsson, 56, joins the Panthers coaching staff with over 30 years of professional hockey experience as both a player and coach. The native of Sweden most recently served as Head Coach of Leksands IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) in 2019-20 and spent time as a scout with the incoming Seattle Kraken NHL franchise before taking the job in Florida.

Over a 15-year coaching career, Samuelsson has served as an assistant coach in the National Hockey League for the Phoenix Coyotes (2006-07 to 2010-11), New York Rangers (2013-14 to 2015-16) and Chicago Blackhawks (2017-18 to 2018-19). He served as Head Coach of MODO Hockey in Sweden for two seasons (2011-12 to 2012-13) and spent one season (2016-17) as Head Coach of the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Samuelsson was once named "The Most Hated Man in Hockey" during his playing career and was criticised by coaches and analysts as someone who attempted to take opponents out of the game. He is infamous for his knee-to-knee hit on Boston Bruins Cam Neely during the 1991 playoffs that prematurely ended Neely's career five years later.
