The announcement of the passing of Jeopardy! host and Canadian icon Alex Trebek has hit everyone pretty hard on Sunday, but one NHL organization in particular is really feeling this loss more than the rest.

Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk issued a statement through the team's official website on Sunday, expressing their sadness upon hearing the news that Trebek, 80, had succumbed to his illness in his home, surrounded by family and friends after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.

"Alex was a true and much beloved Canadian icon, and a very special member of the Ottawa Senators family. We will always be grateful to Alex for the special role he played in announcing the Senators' first draft choice this year. For his legions of fans, Alex's class and professionalism will endure as will his love for our game. Thank you, Alex, for your legacy. The Senators family and the entire Capital Region will miss you," said Melnyk.

Trebek's participation in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft truly was a special moment, as anyone who was watching the event can attest to - particularly the Sens' 3rd overall pick Tim Stuetzle, as Trebek was the one who announced his name on draft night.

"I am deeply sorry to hear about the death of Alex Trebek," Stuetzle said via his personal Twitter account. "I was looking forward to meet the person who drafted me. He shared this unforgettable moment with me and I am very thankful for that. With my deepest condolences, rest in peace Mr. Trebek," he concluded.

Trebek, a native of Sudbury, Ontario and a University of Ottawa alumni was a Canadian national treasure and he will be deeply missed by his many adoring fans. Rest in paradise, Alex.
