The 18-year-old blueliner won gold with Team Canada in the 2020 World Junior Championship earlier this year, and after recording 47 points in 49 games with the Erie Otters in the OHL, Drysdale was selected with the 6th overall pick, though many believe he should have been the top defenseman drafted. That honour ultimately went to the American Jake Sanderson, who was selected one spot ahead of Drysdale at 5th overall by the Ottawa Senators.
The Toronto, Ontario native was the youngest defenseman to play on a World Junior Championship squad since St. Louis Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester in 2001. Drysdale banked 3 points in 7 games for his country en route to the tournament victory.
Drysdale follows suit with fellow first rounder Jacob Perreault (27th overall in 2020), who signed his entry-level contract with the Ducks on Thursday, Nov 5th.
