Given the season the Detroit Red Wings had last year, there was hardly anywhere to go but up. That said, there's little doubt GM Steve Yzerman has improved the team so far this offseason and, in a new interview with The Detroit News, he indicated he may not be done.

“There are a lot of players still on the free-agent market,” Yzerman said. “We have a lot of bodies right now (but) I do think there's room potentially to add, and I would consider it as we go along, or we get closer to knowing when we're going to start (the regular season).”

Some of the pieces added by Yzerman will almost certainly be moved at the trade deadine in order to add assets for the future. With $9.538 million still available on an $81.5 million salary cap, he has the option of adding more players to flip for assets or to add someone who can help the team long term.

In the interview, Yzerman added it's unlikely he'll add pieces through trades.

“As far as the trade market, I'm not really active in that right now, it's pretty quiet around the league,” Yzerman said. “Certainly we'd be open to listening, but things are quiet right now.”

Yzerman also talked about the future of restricted free agent Dmytro Timashov, indicating he may not be back in Detroit next season as he is looking at options in Europe.

"Dmytro is looking around, weighing his options, and is still a possibility to re-sign with us,” Yzerman said.
