Per NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the New York Rangers have agreed to a new contract with restricted free agent forward Ryan Strome. The deal is for two years at $4.5 million per season.

Strome, 27, has revitalized his career since being traded from the Edmonton Oilers to the New York Rangers early on in the 2018-19 season. While his 18 goals and 33 points in 63 games with the team in his first season was impressive, it was nothing compared to his career high 59 points in just 70 games this season. He formed a great line for the Rangers alongside star forwards Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad.

Prior to being dealt to the Rangers, Strome's career was trending downward in a hurry. After a rookie season with the New York Islanders in which he hit 50 points, he failed to hit even 40 in the next four seasons. At the time the Oilers decided to move on from him, he had just two points in 18 games. Now, he has completely flipped the script and is turning into the player many had envisioned when the Islanders selected him with the fifth overall pick at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
