Despite being 35-years-old, Alex Ovechkin shows little signs of slowing down. The Great Eight is currently 188 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky's record for most goals in NHL history at 894 and has expressed his desire to become the record holder one day. That said, in a new interview with a Russian television outlet, Ovechkin made it clear he'd like to end his hockey playing career with his former KHL team, Dynamo Moscow.

"There are certain goals that I want to achieve after my career. But my career is not over yet. I'm still in my prime. I think I will definitely play for a few more years. God grant that my health is good. I would finish in Russia at Dynamo Moscow," said Ovechkin.

The interviewer asked Ovechkin if he was kidding. He said he was not.

“No. I really want to come back and end my career at Dynamo Moscow. After a certain number of years that I will spend, God willing, in Washington.”

To be clear, Ovechkin did not say he would leave Washington for the KHL. It appears his plan is to play with the Capitals until he feels he's no longer good enough to keep up. At that time, he will leave for Dynamo Moscow.

“It's not a question of money. It's a matter of principle: I played for only two teams – Dynamo and Washington. It is clear, in two, three, four years, maybe five, I will end my career in Washington. I want to end on a beautiful note – to play the last match for Moscow Dynamo,” said Ovechkin.

Ovechkin left Dynamo Moscow in 2005 to play in the NHL and returned for one season during the NHL lockout in 2012. Ovechkin is currently home in Moscow and has been spending time at Dynamo Moscow's practices in recent days. He also attended a game with his family this past weekend.
