Matthew Tkachuk was one of the NHL's biggest breakout stars in 2022-23. After a trade that brought him over from Calgary to Florida Tkachuk took a massive step. Now he is setting his sights on two massive goals for the future.

Matthew Wants To Play With Brady

In a recent piece written on theScore written by Kyle Cushman the Panthers star revealed his next goals in his hockey career. The first he mentions is the one that probably comes to mind for most.
My No. 1 dream is to win a Stanley Cup.

His next dream in mind is a bit more unexpected. This goal is all about family which is very important to the Tkachuks.
My No. 2 dream is to win a gold medal with my brother for Team USA," Tkachuk said.

This dream was going to be highly unlikely until a recent announcement. The NHL and the IIHF announced they are working to partner toward an NHL return to the Olympics and the addition of other international tournaments featuring NHL players. If the Tkachuks were to play for the American team they likely wouldn't be the only pair of brothers on the team.

Team USA Looks To Change Hockey History

To this point throughout the history of international hockey, there have been two mainstays at the top of the world. The first was the former USSR also now known as Russia and of course the Canadians.
Since then the United States has tried to build their national team program. They created the USA National Team Development Program (USNTDP). This program has produced tons of superstars including the Tkachuks, The Hughes brothers, Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, and many more.

Tkachuk commented on his time with the USNTDP.
Even playing in the U.S. national team when I was 15 or 16, however old I was, wearing that jersey, there's something about it that you just can't replicate, he said.

With the boom of the success of this program in the last decade, the Americans have become an international powerhouse on the under-20 level. If they are able to play in the Olympics and other international tournaments they could truly test the success of their program.
