What's Next for Nylander

William Nylander's future with the Toronto Maple Leafs still seems very much up in the air, without many updates to go along with it.

But now, Elliotte Friedman has just dropped a significant hint on his 32 Thoughts podcast as to what Nylander's intentions are with his NHL future, and where the Leafs fit.

"I do believe he's being sincere when he says he wants to be a Leaf for the rest of his career. I believe that's where his mind is at. We're at an impasse about what each side thinks the numbers should look like... but I haven't gotten the sense that anything is particularly close at this time."

A Long-Term Leaf?

Based on the quote above, Nylander doesn't appear to have found common ground with Leafs management as far as a contract extension, but wants to remain in Toronto for the foreseeable future, if not the rest of his NHL career.

Whether or not Nylander actually does stay in Toronto long-term or gets traded eventually for a top-pairing blueliner remains to be seen, but Friedman's comments imply that he has no burning desire to leave the only NHL organization he's ever been part of any time soon.
