As you know, Patrice Bergeron announced his retirement from the NHL earlier this summer.

Now, the Bruins are looking for a new captain. Of course, the obvious choice is Brad Marchand.

The player talked about the situation.

Marchand Comments on Becoming Bruins' Captain

After weeks of rumors, Marchand opened up about the role of captain and his potential nomination.

"[Whether or not I'm named captain] is not something that I really think about too much. Obviously, it's a big honor to be in the leadership group in this organization.

When you look at the guys that have been there before. But we've always done it collectively as a group. So regardless of who wears it, it's a collective thing.

When you lose Bergie and [David] Krejci, leadership is going to come from a group, not from one certain guy or a couple of guys. It's gonna be from a big collective group. So that's what we're going to rely on this year, particularly at a time like this."

New Leaders

Losing Bergeron and Krejci is a tough loss for Marchand. Here's how he feels about the situation:

"I definitely feel that burden, that responsibility. It comes with the territory being around for a while and just kind of how things go. The torch gets passed down and when it's time to kind of lead the way, you got to do it. The same thing is going to go for Chucky and Pasta, and Brando and Lindy at different times as well. We'll all do it at different points throughout the year. When it is your turn to step up."

Now, the time has come for him to lead the team.

We can expect an official announcement from the Bruins soon, probably before the start of the training camp.
