Rangers agree to multi-year deal with RFA goaltender, avoiding arbitration

The New York Rangers announced on Thursday that they have reached a two-year pact with restricted free agent goaltender Alexandar Giorgiev, avoiding a pending arbitration case in the process.

According to Cap Friendly, the deal will see the 24-year-old earn $2.2M in 2020-21 and an increase to $2.65M in 2021-22, with the contract carrying a $2.425M AAV, leaving the Rangers with approximately $15.6M to sign their five remaining RFA's to new deals.

Following the departure of "The King", Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers are in good hands between the pipes with the talented youthful duo of Giorgiev and fellow Russian netminder Igor Shesterkin, who owns a career SV% of .930, albeit in a very limited sample size of just 13 NHL starts.

Giorgiev's career numbers may not pop off the page quite the way that Shesterkin's do, but they are still very respectable for a young goaltender with less than 80 games of NHL experience. In just 77 appearances, Giorgiev owns a career SV% of .913 to go along with a 3.00 GAA.

Giorgiev started 34 games for the Rangers in 2019-20, posting a 17-14-2 record, with a .910 SV% and a 3.04GAA.
