Since being bought out of the final year remaining on his contract, there's been plenty of speculation that 38-year-old netminder Henrik Lundqvist was done in the NHL and would head home to Sweden. For the first time since that happened, Lundqvist has made his plans very clear.

"I still love to compete. I still love the game and I still want to WIN!," said Lundqvist on Twitter.

That statement puts any thoughts of retirement to rest. All that remains to be seen is whether he will get an offer from an NHL team to play in the 2020-21 season when free agency opens on October 9th.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman recently stated the Washington Capitals have shown some interest in signing Lundqvist. It makes a lot of sense since the Caps are losing veteran goaltender Braden Holtby to free agency, as they don't have the space left to sign him, and will be left with Ilya Samsonov as the team's starter. All signs point to Samsonov being a capable starter, but he has just 26 career games in the NHL. Adding a presence like Lundqvist as a mentor for Samsonov and an insurance policy in case things don't pan out seems like a good move, depending on the price of course.
