The Ottawa Senators have a big offseason coming up, and it all starts with the 2020 NHL Draft. The team will be looking to find the right pieces to put them back into the postseason for the first time in 3 years.

Ottawa has an astounding 9 picks in the first 71 selections, and general manager Pierre Dorion thinks this could turn the franchise around.

"This is definitely a huge day for our organization," he told TSN, "especially on Tuesday with picks No. 3 and No. 5, getting the two impact players we feel we're going to get. There's a strong chance we have a third one with our pick at No. 28. But having nine picks in the first 71 selections definitely means that it can really alter the direction of this franchise."

The 2020 NHL Draft starts on Tuesday with the first round, followed by rounds 2-7 on Wednesday. It will also be held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Dorion does not plan on shopping his first two picks (No. 3, No. 5) on draft day, but he could shop the No. 28 pick they received from the New York Islanders in the Jean-Gabriel Pageau trade.

The Sens went 25-34-12 last season, and the team has not qualified for the playoffs since 2017. If they want to regain postseason form, it's going to take a lot of work, but Dorion believes this offseason just might be the one that turns the team around.
