11-year NHL veteran announces retirement

Chris Stewart announced, Sunday, that he will be retiring from the NHL.

Stewart is an 11-year NHL veteran who played 668 NHL games for 7 different teams. He played for the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild, Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Stewart is the younger brother of retired NHL player Anthony Stewart. Chris was drafted 18th overall in the 2006 draft by the Colorado Avalanche. He scored 11 goals and had 8 assists in 53 games in his rookie season.

In the 2019-20 season, he only had 1 assist in 16 games for the Philadelphia Flyers. He also had 1 goal and 2 assists in 6 games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL.

Stewart played for the Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL prior to being drafted. He had a high of 87 points in 3 seasons in the OHL.

His best season in the NHL was the 2009-10 season. He had 28 goals and 36 assists for 64 points in 77 games. Stewart had 322 career points in the NHL.
